News from the Hill

For ten rainy days in May, Living Springs looked like something out of a Bruce Willis movie with sixty members of the NZ Police Armed Offenders Squad moving in to set up base for a national training initiative. The weather at times added to the mystique with sinister black SUV’s moving in the mist and black kitted, armed professionals moving in and out on excursions. The Peter Morrow Auditorium was in lockdown as communication central and, one evening the participants included two NZ Army Light Armoured Vehicles (LAV’s). Not your everyday camp but, when things go bad these are the people who move into harm’s way on our behalf, and it was an honour and a privilege to host them. They illustrate once again the amazing diversity of people who are now connecting with Living Springs and finding here a setting and supporting services which can help them towards doing something extraordinary.

Music Groups

Living Springs has become a popular venue for music group rehearsals. Many recent groups have commented on the amazing acoustics in our auditorium.

Recent visits have included the NZ National Youth Choir, who were preparing for their overseas tour which included performing in Shanghai at the World Expo.

Another group who come regularly to rehearse are The Christchurch City Chorus who are part of Sweet Adelines International - a world–wide organisation of singers. Recent winners of the 2010 National Women’s Barbershop Competition held in May, they will be heading to Houston in 2011 to represent the region in the International Competition. Their win ranks them among the world’s top Sweet Adelines International Choruses. Congratulations from the team at Living Springs.
